Artichoke pizza!

So with lots of time to kill before a concert and hoping to meet the band there ( I had recommended the place to them and they said they liked it and would probably go again later that day), me and mona went to Artichoke for some pizza! I had heard good things about their pizza but never made it there because theyre in Chelsea, which is in the middle of nowhere. We went in and got two slices.




The Margherita slice had olive oil, plum tomatoes, fresh basil, and a blend of cheeses. I don't care what the cheeses were, this pizza was good. I loved the fresh basil, gave it a nice herby touch. And the tomato flavor in the sauce was so prominent I loved it. And come on, cheese is good.It was a classic margherita slice done well. Then we got their signature Artichoke pizza which had artichoke hearts, cream sauce, spinach, mozzarella, and pecorino romano cheese.The Margherita was good, but man, this slice stole the show! It was so damn good. The creamy sauce with that blend of cheeses was so yummy!And I love spinach so that was a nice touch too. I don't really have artichoke hearts often so I don't know that they added much, given I don't know the flavor profile too well but regardless, that pizza slice was the ish. Go get some!

Strip House Steak House!


So a few days ago, after some trapezing, me and mona went to Strip House Steak House. I love saying it. Especially the shortened version because I'm too lazy to say the whole thing. Sounds dirty. haha. Anyway, not having eaten all day and somewhat active from the trapezing, we were hungry. Real quick, I love the decor of this place. It's like a 1930s saloon or something. Dark colors, maroon everywhere, smooth seats, and dim lights. You expect some burlesque dancers to come out at any second. Love it. Now, on to the food.











We started off with the lobster bisque and new england sea scallops. The lobster bisque had maine lobster and pearl couscous. It's served tableside so all you see is the couscous and then they come over and pour that hot bisque right over. My god, was that bisque good. Me and mona were debating on how to describe it because we weren't sure what it tasted like exactly. All we knew was it was really really good. I loved the couscous, it was like a nice surprise in every spoon. Set the bar pretty high for the following dishes. We then had the new england sea scallops which had an edamame succotosh, black truffle butter, and corn broth. The scallops cut like butta! So soft. Tasted like. Scallops. Loved the corn and edamame and the scallops were cooked great too. Still didn't beat the bisque though. On to the main courses.





We ordered the 20 oz.bone in new york strip at the recommendation of the waitress. Since we were sharing they were nice enough to cut it in half and put it on two plates. I still helped mona get the rest off the bone though. The steak was medium well and cut pretty well. It wasn't tough at all to cut and was actually pretty tender. Still tasted like steak to me but I dunno, I guess I'm not good with the various cuts and such. It came with a housemade steak sauce which tasted kinda weird. Coulda done without it. It also came with like a roasted half of garlic which was unique. I had some with the steak and that was pretty good.














We also ordered the potato au gratin because I assumed potato and cheese can't go wrong. Wrong. This was our least favorite dish. I guess it was the cheese that they used but the flavors just were not going well together. We also ordered the black truffle creamed spinach. A home run. It was so damn good. I would eat spinach all the time if it tasted like this. The black truffle flavor was very dominant and man, do I love black truffle so I was loving this dish. And the spinach flavor was also present and it was just so damn good.


Lastly, we had the infamous 24 layer chocolate cake. That's right. 24 layers. Look at that thing. It's huge! It was just me and mona so when it came to the table everyone looked at us. And we had our mouths hanging open like holy hell! We were not expecting it to be that big. That was not a slice of cake, that was a cake! Honestly, I thought it was a bit much. I mean it didn't need all of the layers. I think it was just to set them apart, more like a novelty thing. It was layers of the same thing. Cake, ganache, repeat. Plus, it wasn't that great. Just tasted like a normal cake. Nothing distinctive flavor wise. So I wouldn't pay $16 for this cake again. But nice try Strip House (hahaha). You suckered me into paying $16 for a slice of cake.
